Permits

Renton Sign Permits

Renton regulates signs under RMC 4-4-100, with standards for type, placement, scale and construction that vary by use, zoning district and City Center sign district. A permanent sign permit application needs a signed application, a site plan drawn to scale (1 inch = 20 feet) and a construction plan; for wall signs the elevation shows the sign’s dimensions and square footage and the building’s height and length. Electrical and mechanical work need their own separate permits, and the City doubles permit fees when work starts before a permit is issued.

For openings and events, Renton issues temporary sign permits, each good for 30 days. Temporary event permits can be issued four times per calendar year per business, with a 15-day break between events when the sign must come down, and each business is allowed one grand opening sign. Ask the Permit Center for the size limits before you order a banner.
